Micko to stay on as Wicklow boss
Kerryman Mick O'Dwyer is to remain at the helm of the Wicklow senior football team for the 2008 season, despite a health scare earlier this year which curtailed his activities.
Almost a year after O'Dwyer was announced as Wicklow's new manager in the glamorous surrounds of Dublin's Westbury Hotel, comes the news of his reappointment for another year.
Although Micko underwent a minor heart procedure during the summer, delegates of the Wicklow County Board have overwhelmingly reinstated the 72-year-old for another term.
O'Dwyer succeeded Hugh Kenny as Wicklow manager and guided the county to the Tommy Murphy Cup title - their first national senior success since winning the All-Ireland senior 'B' football championship in 1992.
A last gasp goal from Tommy Gill handed Wicklow a thrilling 3-13 to 1-17 extra-time victory over Antrim in last month's Tommy Murphy Cup final. It brought a positive end to Wicklow's 16-game 2007 campaign during which the Garden county lost just six matches.
O'Dwyer had hoped to commence training for next year's campaign at the beginning of October but club championship commitments for a number of players has prevented this from happening.
Arthur French will again take the position of assistant manager for Wicklow next season, while former Wicklow players Kevin O'Brien, Philip McGillycuddy and Gerry Farrell will be remaining on as selectors.
