Ó Sé's future in doubt

A poor turnout at training last night could mean Paidí Ó Sé's tenure as Clare football manager will soon be over.

There had been speculation that Ó Sé would walk away from the job after Clare's disappointing Munster championship exit at the hands of Waterford in May.

However, the former Kerry and Westmeath boss, whose mother passed away since that defeat, returned to training in Ennis last night, albeit with only a handful of players at the session.

Clare face Tipperary in the first round of the Tommy Murphy Cup on Saturday, yet the poor turnout at training could lead to S Si's departure after this weekend's game.

The 52-year-old, who was appointed to the Banner post last autumn, does not have an official term but he did remark at his managerial launch that he would "give it a go for two years".

Meanwhile, the Clare County Board are in negotiations with their Tipperary counterparts to seek a re-fixing of Saturday's Tommy Murphy Cup game between the counties.

Clare are hoping the tie, which has a 7pm throw-in in Ardfinnan, can be re-fixed as it currently clashes with their hurlers' All-Ireland qualifier encounter with Galway (Cusack Park, throw-in 7.30pm) on the same night.
