CAC rejects Cork appeal

Cork's appeal against the bans given to three of their players for their involvement in the pre-match brawl which marred their recent Munster SHC clash with Clare was rejected by the GAA's Central Appeals Committee (CAC) last night.

Dónal Óg Cusack, Diarmuid O'Sullivan and Sean Óg O hAilpín, who were flown by helicopter to last night's CAC meeting in Portlaoise, failed to have their four-week suspensions overturned.

There now seems little if any chance of the 'Semplegate' trio playing for Cork in tomorrow's Munster semi-final against Waterford, unless they can hastily force the Disputes Resolution Authority to convene later today.

The Cork County Board's appeal against the fines imposed on them by the Central Hearings Committee was also rejected.

The three players were joined at last night's meeting by Cork County Secretary Frank Murphy, team selector Donal Collins and fitness coach Gerry Wallis.

The Cork players' suspensions expire at midnight next Saturday.
