Knee injury keeps Sligo's Taylor out

Tony Taylor has played his last game for Sligo's senior footballers this season - a serious knee injury, sustained in a club game, will keep the big midfielder on the sidelines for the duration of the summer.

The news comes as a considerable blow to Sligo boss Tommy Breheny whose side are busy preparing for next month's Connacht SFC clash with New York. The Yeats county panel returned to full training this week, following their fourth place finish in NFL Division 2B.

Taylor ruptured a tendon in his knee last Saturday whilst playing for Eastern Harps against Easkey in a county league match.

He underwent surgery on Sunday and can expect to spend six weeks in a cast, with his rehabilitation work not beginning until the end of the summer.

The Gurteen man, whose brother Paul is also on the Sligo panel, had an impressive league campaign, helping his side gain Division Three status for 2008.

A former Under-21 panellist, Taylor made his senior championship debut for Sligo against Kildare in an All-Ireland SFC qualifier, two years ago.
