Knee injury rules out Tipp's Fitzgerald

A serious knee injury looks set to rule Diarmuid Fitzgerald out of the Tipperary hurlers' plans for the next two months.

The 24-year-old damaged the medial ligaments in his knee while playing for UCD against Limerick IT in the Fitzgibbon Cup on Tuesday.

After examination, it has emerged that Fitzgerald is looking at a lay-off of approximately eight weeks, meaning he will miss the rest of Tipperary's National Hurling League campaign.

The Roscrea corner back, who will wear a brace for the next six weeks, should return in time for the Munster Championship clash with Limerick on June 10.
