Mickey Ned O'Sullivan's Limerick side had little difficulty in seeing off Tralee IT this afternoon, as the Shannonsiders progressed through to the first round proper of the 2007 McGrath Cup.
Michael Crowley was top scorer with seven points as Limerick won the preliminary round tie, which was played at Newcastle West, by 1-14 to 1-5.
The Kerry students were left trailing by 0-7 to 0-4 at half-time, while Jason Stokes put further distance between the sides when he thumped home a 38th-minute goal.
Patsy O'Connell saved some face for Tralee when he beat Limerick 'keeper Sean Kiely from the penalty spot in the final minute.
O'Sullivan's side face Tipperary in next weekend's first round, while UCC claimed the scalp of county side Waterford this afternoon to book a date with Waterford IT next Sunday.
Cork senior star John Hayes struck 0-9 as UCC scored a memorable 0-12 to 2-4 extra-time win over Waterford in Dungarvan today.
UCC broke into a 0-4 to 0-3 lead for half-time but two goals from Wayne Hennessy and Liam O Lionnain put John Kiely's Deise, who managed to beat Sligo and Cavan in last year's National League, into a strong lead.
But thanks to Hayes' assured kicking and a last-gasp point from Michael Cussen, UCC forced extra-time - the final whistle saw the sides locked at 0-10 to 2-4.
And the Cork students just had the edge in the additional periods as Hayes hit two more points in the first half of extra-time to guide them to a famous triumph.
