Young camogie All Stars nominees announced

The nominees for this year’s All Stars for the Camogie Young Player of the Year and for the Camogie Manager of the Year were announced today in Dublin.

Those in contention for the Young Player of the Year All-Star are Orla Cotter (Cork), Noreen Coen (Galway), Karen Tinnelly (Down) and Marie Dargan (Kilkenny).

It was an historic year for Orla Cotter as she became the first player to win both a Senior A and a Senior B All-Ireland medal with Cork.

Galway forward Noreen Coen has also had a great year. She reached the minor final with Galway where they were beaten by Kilkenny and she is also part of the Athenry team that takes on O'Donovan Rossa in this weekend’s All-Ireland club semi-final.

Karen Tinnelly from Down helped her team to an Ulster minor title and minor All-Ireland B title, while Marie Dargan was the star of the show scoring 2-1 in Kilkenny’s minor All-Ireland victory over Galway. She was also part of the senior Kilkenny side who were unlucky to lose to Tipperary in this year’s Gala All-Ireland semi-final.

The nominees for the Manager of the Year All-Star are Cork’s John Cronin, Dublin’s Peter Lucey and the Kilkenny duo of Liam Dunne and Stephen Dormer.

John Cronin guided Cork to successive senior All-Ireland titles when they overcame old rivals Tipperary in this year’s decider in Croke Park.

It was just as big a year for Dublin manager Peter Lucey. He coached his side to successive All-Ireland Junior titles as they defeated Derry in the final. This ensured that the Capital will compete in the senior camogie championship in 2007.

Liam Dunne and Stephen Dormer guided the U-16 Kilkenny side to a second successive All-Ireland triumph as they defeated Cork by 12 points in the All-Ireland final.

The winners will be announced at the Camogie All-Stars Awards Gala Dinner in the Citywest Hotel on November 11.
