Roe lands Offaly job

Former Carlow and Wexford boss Pat Roe has been appointed as manager of the Offaly senior footballers.

Former Carlow and Wexford boss Pat Roe has been appointed as manager of the Offaly senior footballers.

The news emerged after last night's Offaly County Board meeting in Tullamore.

Roe, who is married to an Offaly woman, quickly became favourite for the position after outgoing selector Gerry Cooney withdrew from the race to replace Kevin Kilmurray.

After two years at the helm, Kilmurray stepped down last month citing "work and family commitments".

Roe played as a defender for his native Laois and his biggest success as a manager, to date, came when he guided Wexford through to the Division One final of the National Football League in 2005.
