Tipp football boss resigns
Seamus McCarthy has stepped down as manager of the Tipperary senior footballers, citing work and travel commitments.
McCarthy's initial two-year term came to an end in July when Tipp lost to Leitrim in the Tommy Murphy Cup, and he will not be seeking a re-appointment.
The Galtee Rovers clubman also saw his side bow out of the Munster championship to Kerry this summer and lose to Longford in the second round of the All-Ireland SFC qualifiers.
The Tipperary County Board are due to meet tomorrow night, with a view to settling on their new man. Current selector Johnny Owens from Moyle Rovers is thought to be the front runner for the position.
Owens was part of McCarthy's backroom team when Tipp won the Tommy Murphy Cup last year.
McCarthy, who previously managed the Premier county's footballers in the mid-1990s, began his second spell in charge in December 2004 when he succeeded Laois man Andy Shortall in the role.
