Galway 2-12 Kilkenny 1-24

Kilkenny gained revenge on Galway for defeat in last year’s Erin All-Ireland Under-21 hurling final with a classy display in Tullamore.

Despite a 2-4 tally from minor star Joe Canning, the Leinster champions proved too hot with James ‘Cha’ Fitzpatrick (0-8), TJ Reid (0-5) and Richie Power (1-1) the key men.

Power’s 14th-minute goal pushed the Cats into a 1-7 to 0-2 lead, but substitute Canning directed a 25th-minute centre in past Liam Tierney to cut the gap to 1-12 to 1-5 at the break.

Five minutes into the second half, he nabbed his second – yet Kilkenny were never headed.
