A knee ligament injury will keep Darren Stamp out of contention for Wexford's All-Ireland SHC quarter-final clash with Clare on Sunday in Croke Park (throw-in 2.15pm).

Stamp, 24, had the injury diagnosed by Dr. Pat O'Neill on Monday. Cruel timing saw him damage his knee at a training session last Saturday.

The versatile Oulart-the-Ballagh clubman, who has played in defence, midfield and attack during his inter-county career, is a considerable loss for Wexford boss Seamus Murphy.

Stamp overcame a quad muscle injury to start the Leinster final against Kilkenny, but had little impact as the Cats retained the title with ease.

Also on Wexford's treatment table at present are Dessie Mythen, Willie Doran, Stephen Nolan and Barry Goff. All four are nursing hamstring injuries, with only Oulart attacker Mythen expected to recover in time for the weekend.

Better news for Murphy is that experienced pair Darragh Ryan and Paul Codd have been back in training after recent knee and calf muscle injuries, although it is unclear whether either player will be fit enough for such a high intensity game.
