The draw has been made this afternoon for the 2006 Tommy Murphy Cup.

The pick of the first round ties is the meeting of NFL Division Two sides Roscommon and Cavan.

John Maughan's Rossies, knocked out of the All-Ireland qualifiers by Meath, will have home advantage against the Breffni men, who have been idle since June 24 when they were beaten by Kildare in the qualifiers.

The other fixtures will see Carlow clashing with neighbours Wicklow, Waterford will face Tipperary, the 2005 Murphy Cup winners, in a Munster derby, while Clare are set to take on Louth and Antrim and Kilkenny will square off against each other.

This year's Tommy Murphy Cup final is set to take place at Croke Park on August 27 as a curtain raiser to the second All-Ireland SFC semi-final.

The secondary football competition, created in 2004, was won by Sligo two seasons ago and Tipperary beat Wexford by 3-10 to 0-15 last September to lift the trophy at GAA headquarters.

Tommy Murphy, dubbed 'the Boy Wonder of football', made his debut for the Laois senior footballers in 1937, aged just 16. He won three Leinster SFC medals, and eight Laois championship titles with his club Annanough.

The holder of two Railway Cup medals, Murphy was selected at midfield on the “Team of the Century” in 1984 for players who never won an All-Ireland medal, and later on the Team of the Millennium in 1999.

He died in 1985 at the age of 64.
