Heartbreak for relegated Wexford

Wexford 1-11 Armagh 0-15

Wexford 1-11 Armagh 0-15

Wexford will be playing Division Two football next year despite the best efforts of Mattie Forde at Wexford Park today.

In a repeat of last year’s Division One final, Forde scored 1-07 of his side’s tally, but injury-time points from Aaron Kernan (free) and Stephen McDonnell rescued Armagh.

As relegation hung over both sides, Armagh went in at the break with a 0-10 to 0-06 lead. McDonnell (0-04) and Paddy McKeever (0-02) led the scoring.

Forde’s 42nd-minute goal helped Wexford get back level. A Forde free, right on 70 minutes, pushed the Model men in front but the 2005 champions had the final say.
