Meath pay dearly for sending off

Meath 1-12 Kildare 1-14

14-man Meath lost out to Kildare in their Division 1B derby clash at Páirc Tailteann today.

On the half hour, wing forward Peadar Byrne picked up a yellow card and then a subsequent red for a verbal exchange with Cavan referee Joe McQuillan. However, Meath still led by 1-08 to 1-07 at the break as Brian Farrell and Kildare’s Ronan Sweeney traded goals.

Five points from Peter Curran helped Meath go 1-12 to 1-09 in front by the 52nd-minute, but points from John Doyle pushed the Lilywhites in front.

At the death, Meath skipper Nigel Crawford struck the visitors’ crossbar.
