Goal-fest for All-Stars in Singapore
The Vodafone Hurling All-Stars of 2004 and 2005 served up a veritable goal-fest at the Singapore Polo Grounds today - the Donal O'Grady-managed 2004 side won the exhibition match by 9-12 to 6-15.
Goals from Waterford duo Eoin Kelly and Dan Shanahan, Clare attacker Tony Carmody and Limerick's Niall Moran propelled the 2004 All-Stars into a 5-08 to 3-06 half-time lead in a game watched by close to 2,500 spectators.
Eoin Larkin of Kilkenny and Galway points machine Ger Farragher both found the net for the 2005 line-up, managed by current Cork boss John Allen.
While thunder and lightning threatened on the resumption, the 'friendly' nature continued on the field in the second half as 2005 goalkeeper Davy Fitzgerald went on to concede another four goals. Shanahan and his Waterford team mate Dave Bennett were on target again.
At the other end, Kilkenny stopper Damien Fitzhenry, who was at his agile best, claimed the man-of-the-match award despite a total of six green flags against him.
Banner favourite Carmody impressed, adding a goal and two points in the final quarter for a personal haul of 2-04.
Today's game marked the first time an All-Stars selection has lined out in the continent of Asia.
