All-Star winning forward Damien Hayes will receive the Hurler of the Year honour at Friday's Galway Sports Personality of the Year awards.

The Portumna ace, who scored 3-11 in helping Galway win through to last September's All-Ireland SHC final, is to receive his award at a ceremony in Salthill's Galway Bay Hotel.

In 2005, Hayes also scooped his first All-Star award for his stirring performances, as well as RTE's Hurling Moment of the Year gong.

The Galway Sports Personality Team of 2005 award goes to Galway minor hurlers, who won back-to-back All-Ireland titles, while Vincent Mullins is the deserving winner of the Manager of the Year award after guiding the Tribesmen's Under-21 hurlers to All-Ireland glory.

The Tommie Larkins club will be presented with the Club of 2005 award following their successes at intermediate and Under-21 level in the county.
