John Maughan ended his tenure as Mayo manager in August, but he contemplated his resignation as far back as April, according to Mayo GAA secretary Sean Feeney.

Maughan, who was ratified as Roscommon's new supremo last month, resigned from the Mayo job in the aftermath of All-Ireland SFC quarter-final defeat by Kerry in August.
