Naughton goes full-time with Dubs

Tommy Naughton was ratified as the new Dublin senior hurling manager last night, having been in caretaker control of the capital side during the summer.

With the county board's backing, the Scoil Uí Chonaill clubman will take on the role on a full-time basis. Andy Cunningham, Mick O'Riordan and former county goalkeeper Damien Byrne have been chosen as selectors.

Naughton initially succeeded the ousted Humphrey Kelleher in June for the duration of the 2005 championship, overseeing the 3-13 to 1-10 relegation semi-final defeat of Laois, which guaranteed Dublin's top-tier status for next season.

A former U21 boss, Naughton will run the rule over his panel this Sunday as Tipperary face the Dubs in a challenge match to mark the official opening of the new O'Toole's club pitch (throw-in 1.30pm).

Taoiseach Bertie Ahern will perform the official opening of the Malahide Road club's new facility at 5pm, following a second challenge match between the senior footballers of Dublin and Monaghan (3.30pm).
