Hurling legends to be announced on TV
TG4 is to broadcast the official announcement of the Guinness Hurling Legends team at the Guinness Storehouse in Dublin on Friday, September 30.
The make-up of the team, which the public were asked to vote for on www.guinnesshurling.ie from July from an original player panel of 75, will be confirmed at the Stuff of Legend awards ceremony, hosted by veteran RTÉ radio commentator Micheál Ó Muircheartaigh (TG4, 8-9.30pm).
The vote, which concluded at midnight yesterday, is only for players who have played over the last 10 years, since the commencement of Guinness' sponsorship of the All-Ireland SHC in 1995.
All 15 awards will be announced live on stage, and presented by six different guest presenters.
"There has been huge interest throughout the summer in the Guinness Hurling Legends team," said Ronan Beirne of Guinness.
"It's been a source of huge debate in all the counties, not just the die-hard hurling counties. We just thought it would be a fantastic end to the debate to have the presentation live on TV, so fans can check out if they have matched the final 15 as it is announced."
TG4's Sports editor Ronan Ó Coisdeabhla added: "TG4 are delighted to be in a position to broadcast the awards ceremony. We have a great reputation for first-class sports programming, and to be involved with an event like the Stuff of Legend awards is another first for us.
"It's a unique event, never to be repeated and I am sure will be of huge interest to GAA fans all around the country."
