Roche to ref All-Ireland final
Tipperary man Seamus Roche has been appointed to referee Sunday week's Guinness All-Ireland Hurling championship final between Cork and Galway.
It will be the first time the Kilsheelan clubman has taken charge of an All-Ireland SHC final. Roche already whistled March's AIB All-Ireland club final between James Stephens and Athenry, and last month's Leinster decider between Kilkenny and Wexford.
A former footballer and hurler with his club Kilsheelan, Roche, who reffed the recent semi-final between Galway and Kilkenny, dubbed "the game of the century", has been refereeing for around 12 years and joined the inter county panel five years ago.
Dubliner Eamonn Morris has been chosen to referee the All-Ireland minor final between Galway and Limerick on the same afternoon - Sunday, September 11.
