Tyrone team unchanged for Armagh clash
Tyrone manager Mickey Harte has named an unchanged team from those who demolished Cavan in the semi-final replay for Sunday's Ulster SFC final against heavyweights rivals Armagh.
Harte has kept faith with John Devine in goal, after the Errigal Ciaran stopper proved his worth in the absence of regular net minder Pascal McConell.
The latter sustained damage to his ribs and sterum in the drawn game with Cavan.
Conor Gormley continues his new role as a midfielder, partnering the tireless Sean Cavanagh for a third straight championship outing.
Up front it's as you were also, with Ulster Player of the month for June Peter Canavan, who notched 1-7 last time out, alongside Stephen O'Neill and Enda McGinley.
Speaking at yesterday's final preview at the Bank of Ireland headquarters in Dublin, Tyrone boss Harte admitted veteran sharpshooter Canavan is back to the form which saw him earn three straight All-star awards from 1994 to 1996.
"You can’t argue with Peter's form or tell lies about it,” said Harte, who took over the Tyrone reins from Art McRory and Eugene McKenna in November 2002.
"He has been excellent. I actually believed that he performed very well in the drawn game against Cavan and it wasn’t really picked up on because the game ended in a draw and a lot of people didn’t think we played well that day.
"He made a very significant contribution to keep us in that game. In the replay, the scores came easier. He was the orchestrator of most of them and it was noticed.
"I’d have to say that this is as well as I have seen him play since the mid-nineties. We saw vintage Peter Canavan in the Cavan replay which may put pressure on him ahead of Sunday’s game. But if any man can handle that type of pressure, Peter Canavan can."
Set for his second game since returning from an ankle injury, 29-year-old Derry-based Brian Dooher will skipper the Red Hands on Sunday - in what is a repeat of the 2003 All-Ireland final.
Tyrone: J Devine; R McMenamin, C Lawn, S Sweeney; D Harte, G Devlin, P Jordan; C Gormley, S Cavanagh; B Dooher (capt), B McGuigan, M Penrose; P Canavan, S O'Neill, E McGinley.
