Wexford 2-10 Galway 0-19
Ger Farragher continued his stunning Allianz NHL Division 1 form into Galway's opening second phase win over Wexford, as he contributed twelve points to the Tribesmen's tally.
The Sligo IT hitman had already shown his accuracy in Galway's four wins from five in the opening phase, but he impressed everybody in the 5,000+ attendance at Wexford Park with six frees, one sideline and four points from play.
The visitors led 0-06 to 0-04 after the end of the first quarter, but a 20th-minute close-in Wexford free - awarded for a foul on Nigel Higgins by Galway goalkeeper Liam Donoghue - saw Donoghue yellow carded.
His opposite number Damien Fitzhenry struck the resultant dead ball into the net for a 1-04 to 0-06 lead.
The Model men maintained that one point lead - going in 1-07 to 0-09 in front at the break - thanks to scores from Rory Jacob, Paul Carley and Rory McCarthy, among others.
Farragher was single-handedly keeping Galway in the hunt and his 38th-minute sideline cut score - for two points - rallied the visiting support.
Two further points - one from play - saw the centre forward give his side a 0-13 to 1-07 as the clock ticked into the final half-hour.
It was nip-and-tuck in the closing stages as first, points from Carley, Higgins and Michael Jacob brought Wexford back level.
When Dessie Mythen found the Galway net on 53 minutes for a 2-10 to 0-15, it was Wexford with the spring in their step but ultimately, that was their final hit of an end-to-end match.
Overs from Eugene Cloonan, Farragher (0-02) and Damien Hayes sealed Galway's two-point win and will give them heart ahead of difficult ties against Tipp and Cork over the next fortnight.
