Second half rally secures Down win

Down dusted off their shooting boots to end any hopes Galway had of making the second stage of the league campaign at Ballinasloe.

The Mourne men staged a brilliant second half comeback to win by three points.

They overturned a 0-06 to 0-08 half-time deficit as Benny Coulter bagged two excellent goals.

Coulter hit 2-02 in the second half as Galway's challenge wilted - not withstanding the efforts of Padraig Joyce, Derek Savage and Ciaran Comer - with the latter scoring two well-hit points in Tribesmen's opening salvo.

In what was a meaningless ending, Paddy O'Rourke's men finished fourth in the table - with Kildare just above them on points difference.
