Colm Corkery in possible move to American NFL
Cork forward Colm Corkery has been linked with a sensational move to America's National Football League.
Corkery is "on the verge" of a move to the New York Jets on a two-year contract, according to a report in Ireland on Sunday.
Represenatives of the Jets will fly to England rugby's base in Surrey next week to watch Corkery partake in a final trial. Such is the apparent anxiety of the Jets to complete the deal, they have scrapped plans for Corkery to participate in a kicking camp in Nevada.
A source close to Corkery said: "Things are looking very good."
The 34-year-old may seem a little old for a new sport, but kickers in American Football can play into their 40s, as their duties generally don't extend beyond kicking the ball off the ground.
Dave Alred, the assistant coach of the England and Lions rugby teams, spent three years as a kicker with the Minnesota Vikings and he is to work with Corkery prior to next week's trial.
