Goal for McMahon in Laois win
Sligo 0-11 Laois 1-15
Padraig McMahon struck a 62nd-minute goal as Laois bagged their second win of NFL Division 1B, defeating Sligo by five points.
The O'Moore County had Stephen Kelly in fine form, scoring three points in a first half which ended 0-08 to 0-03 in Laois' favour.
He opened the scoring, then Laois' Gary Kavanagh cancelled out a Brendan Egan effort for the Connacht men before scores from Kelly (0-02), Kavanagh again, Chris Conway and a brace from Ross Munnelly stretched them further in front.
Following a single from John McPartland on the restart, the O'Byrne Cup champions reeled off four straight points from Munnelly, Padraig Clancy, and Conway (0-02) to notch a 0-12 to 0-04 advantage.
Dessie Sloyan and Noel Maguire brought about the home side's hopes of a revival, but despite scoring five late points - with Sean Davey and Sloyan amongst the scorers - the result was effectively decided by McMahon's breakaway goal.
