Council to discuss sin bin rule
The Central Council of the GAA will meet tonight and on the table for discussion is the decision to dump the sin bin rule.
GAA President Sean Kelly announced last Monday that the sin bin will be ditched, and instead,
yellow-carded players will be replaced by a substitute for the remainder of a match.
However, the Council has the power to veto the new rule for the upcoming National Football and Hurling Leagues.
Speaking on Monday, Mr Kelly defended the decision to abandon the sin bin, saying it had been a logistical nightmare to apply, adding the Association could not contemplate different rules for club and inter-county matches.
Mr Kelly said: "The fourth official would nearly need a secretary with him if that situation were to
continue.
"It was also felt it would be almost impossible to operate at club level and the committee never wanted different systems for club and county games."
