Limerick football boss Liam Kearns has received another blow on the injury front with the news that defender Stephen Lucey will miss the entire National League campaign.

The Croom former dual player underwent an operation on a shoulder injury on Tuesday, and will not have sufficiently recovered for at least four months.

Limerick have lost a few big names to injury recently. John Galvin and Brian Begley will also be sidelined for the opening rounds of the League.

However, Kearns has coaxed veteran John Quane out of retirement to alleviate the loss and the Kerry native has also invited Limerick FC striker Ross Cosgrave to train with the squad.

Limerick goalkeeper Seamus O'Donnell and winger Stephen Kelly are former eircom League players.

Limerick travel to Leinster finalists Laois in the opening round of the League on the first weekend in February.
