McGaughey to call for fixtures review
Tyrone county secretary Dominic McCaughey will call for a fixtures review from Croke Park in his speech to the county's convention next week.
The 2003 All-Ireland champions bowed out of the All-Ireland championship to Mayo, just five days after their previous championship game and McCaughey believes the time span influenced the outcome of the match.
The Association has pledged to ensure that provincial runners-up will not have to play in the qualifiers within 13 days of the final, but McCaughey says the initiative should be examined to give all teams a break between games.
"The fact that Tyrone were only allowed five clear days since their previous match, in preparation for the All-Ireland quarter-final, while the opposition was able to avail of a 19-day gap, probably played a significant part in the outcome of the match," he said.
