Hayes reappointed Galway boss

Conor Hayes was reappointed as Galway hurling manager at last night's county board meeting.

A seven-man sub-committee had recommended Mattie Murphy for the job, but he withdrew his candidacy when club delegates voted against his ratification last week.

Hayes's name was the only one to go forward last night. It had been thought former manager Noel Lane would seek the position.

Hayes led Galway to the National League title this year, but they were subsequently trounced by Kilkenny in the All-Ireland qualifiers.
