New Tipp manager proposal due

Tipperary's football board is due to propose a new manager for ratification tonight, following the decision not to reinstate Andy Shorthall.

However, there have been reports that the football board executive will resign en masse after losing last Thursday's ballot to have Shorthall reinstated by 29 votes.

Shorthall and his selectors resigned in July over the fixing of a club hurling match involving squad members prior to an All-Ireland football qualifier fixture against Fermanagh.

The squad withdrew their services in support of the management, which led to the Premier County not fulfilling the match against Fermanagh.

Ex-Munster Council chairman Christy Cooney had to act as mediator in the dispute that followed between the county board, the fooball board, the players and management, and he proposed last week's vote.
