Fitzgerald wins first county medal

Former Footballer of the Year, Kerry's Maurice Fitzgerald, won his first county championship medal yesterday to cap his dazzling career.

Fitzgerald's side, South Kerry, won the county title for the first time since 1982, beating Killorglin side Laune Rangers.

During a career that spanned 13 years with the Kingdom, Fitzgerald won every honour in the game, but a county championship medal always eluded him.
