Hayes feeling the heat

Galway hurling manager Conor Hayes has admitted he is feeling the pressure from ex-Tribesmen boss Mattie Murphy to retain his post.

Hayes and Murphy have both been nominated for the position, along with Noel Lane, who preceded Hayes as manager.

However, Hayes' senior side lost out by 19 points in the qualifiers to Kilkenny this year, while Murphy led his minors to All-Ireland glory in September.

"Mattie probably is the favourite because he has been successful with the minors this year. The general tendency in Galway is to change," Hayes admitted.
