Kelly launches club championships

The 2005 AIB All-Ireland club championships were launched yesterday in London by GAA President Sean Kelly.

Sponsors AIB decided to hold the launch in London, and Mr Kelly said the idea for the launch gave the GAA a chance to meet with members who work to promote the game overseas.

Also present were All-Ireland hurling winners Ben and Jerry O'Connor of Cork's Newtownshandrum, the defending club hurling champions. Newtown face east Cork side Cloyne in the county semi-finals this weekend.

Brothers Michael and Noel Meehan represented Caltra, the All-Ireland football champions from Galway.

Kerry footballer Colm Cooper, who works with AIB, was also present.
