McGrath defends Seán Óg decision
Pete McGrath, manager of the Irish International Rules team, has defended his decision to call Cork hurler Sean Óg Ó hAilpín into his squad.
Ó hAilpín has not played inter-county football for four years but took part in a practice match against a Dublin-based Aussie Rules side last weekend and impressed the selectors.
The call up has been criticised by Armagh manager Joe Kernan who admitted he was "flabbergasted". Kernan contrasted the decision to the omission of Armagh's Kieran McGeeney and Paul McGrane.
But McGrath has rejected the criticism of Ó hAilpín’s inclusion. "He's an exceptionally fit man and I'm sure we'd all agree he could turn his skills to any game.”
McGrath has also revealed that Seamus Moynihan is unlikely to receive a late call-up and Anthony Lynch is definitely out of contention because of a shoulder injury.
