Mayo U21s lead by five at half time
Mayo 1-8 Kildare 1-3
Mayo hold a five-point lead at half time in the second of today's Erin All-Ireland U21 semi-finals at Salthill's Pearse Stadium.
Balla forward Alan Costello rounded off a strong first half from the Connacht men, searching for the county's first U21 success since 1983, as he struck a 29th minute goal past Joe Kindregen, having been set up by a smart ball from Michael Conroy.
Busy forward Conroy has contributed two points himself, and the whole Mayo full-forward line had scored when Costello bagged his only first half point on 22 minutes for a 0-6 to 1-1 lead.
Kildare made a great start, when after conceding an early score to Mayo senior Damien Munnelly, the Lilywhites hit the front as Ross Glavin set up centre half-forward James Kavanagh up for a low shot past a stranded Fintan Ruddy.
Kavanagh ended the half with Kildare's last point, a free in injury time.
