Derry 2-16 Wexford 2-5

Derry chalked up their third win of the All-Ireland SFC qualifier series as they confidently dispatched of 14-man Wexford at Parnell Park.

The victory, set up by a 1-10 to 0-2 first half display from the Oak Leafers, sees five Ulster counties remaining in the hunt for Sam Maguire this year.

It went as planned for Mickey Moran from as early as the fifth minute when corner forward Enda Muldoon burst through to slot neatly under Wexford 'keeper John Cooper from close range.

Paddy Bradley had launched the attack that led to the goal, and he was at the forefront of almost every Derry attack, picking off eight points in the bargain.

Wexford had their own goal chances, with John Hudson's arguably the best on eight minutes.

A great run from corner back Philip Wallace set up half forward Hudson for a strike on goal but his effort came back off a Derry upright for Redmond Barry to fist over.

Jason Lawlor had another pop at goal denied, but it was points Wexford were left needing at the break, with a deficit of 11.

Matty Forde, the scoring hero against Offaly in the last round, could only manage one in the opening period, in the 18th minute.

Muldoon grafted 1-2 from the half, with Bradley (0-06), James Donaghy and Johnny McBride the other Derry scorers.

Forde scored a neat 1-2 inside the first six minutes of the second half, but immediately Muldoon and Bradley points staved off any revival hopes.

The pattern of point-for-point continued until Wexford midfielder Paddy Colfer netted from a Forde pass on 63 minutes, to finally beat out the excellent Barry Gillis.

The championship death knell for Wexford came moments later when Philip Wallace received a straight red card for a reckless challenge and Derry substitute Dominic McIlvar grabbed his side's second goal and their ticket to round four.
