Landers: Cork must change their attack
Changes must be made to the Cork attack if they are to win Saturday’s All- Ireland qualifier against Tipperary, according to former All-Ireland winning captain Mark Landers.
The current Killeagh manager, who led Cork to glory in 1999, would omit Garvan McCarthy and Timmy McCarthy and re-arrange the front six.
Landers told the Evening Echo: “I would bring Ben O’Connor out to left wing forward and replace him inside with Kieran Murphy from Sarsfields.
“On the other wing I would start Jonathan O’Callaghan or Michael Byrne. A case could be made for both, after all they played throughout the league.
“Byrne is more of a ball winner and a ball breaker while O’Callaghan offers a real live scoring threat.
“In omitting the two McCarthys this time I believe both still have a big role to play. I think Garvan will play a lot of games for Cork in the future but he needs more experience like a league campaign behind him.
“Timmy coming off the bench could be a trump card. He has given huge service to Cork and still has a lot to offer."
Landers would leave the rest of the side intact but would keep a very close eye on how the defence performs.
“It must be stressed beforehand that no matter who they are, they will be taken off if they are not producing the goods.
“I would not allow anyone more than 20 minutes if they are not performing."
Tonight’s Cork County Board meeting starts at 9.30pm.
