Down overcome dogged New York
New York 1-9 Down 1-19
Down overcame a spirited home side and the New York heat to advance in the Ulster SHC at Gaelic Park this evening.
With temperatures in the high eighties, New York drew first blood with early points before Down fired over five points without reply.
New York hit back with a goal halfway through the first half when Bonny Kennedy fired in a free but the home side were let down by 10 first-half wides and Down went in at half-time 0-13 to 1-3 in front.
The second half went the same way, although Down effectively killed the match as a contest with a goal from Martin Coulter eight minutes after the break to ease into the next round.
