Mayo win one-sided American affair
New York 1-8 Mayo 3-28
Connor Mortimer spearheaded this demolition of New York with a good and 12 points as Mayo got their Connaught SFC campaign off to a flying start in the Bronx.
A 5,000 crowd at Gaelic Park, 1,000 of them visitors from Mayo, saw Mortimer open the scoring with an early point and followed up with a goal misway through the half, as the westerners raced into a 0-4 1-15 lead at the interval.
It was Mayo all the way, after the break as well, with Andy Moran and sub Austin O’Malley adding goals for Kerryman Ken O’Connor scored a late consolation goal for New York.
