Wexford turn over Galway with style
Galway 1-7 Wexford 5-12
Wexford skipper Mattie Forde inspired his side once more to a famous victory, having already claimed the scalps of Meath and Sligo, as he hit 4-5 as the Model men ran out surprise winners over Galway at Tuam Stadium.
The win moves Wexford into second place in Division 1B, and comes after Forde had already hit an amazing 3-27 in this season’s campaign.
They launched their effort early, backed by a considerable breeze, and were 0-4 to 0-1 in front inside the first quarter.
Scott Doran pinched two points from the Galway back line and Forde hit over two frees with John Devane the home side’s scorer.
Three goals in the space of five minutes for Forde on 25, 28 and 30 minutes saw Wexford establish a 3-7 to 0-2 foothold.
15 minutes after the restart, it was 4-9 to 0-3 as Wexford continued their domination with a goal from David Fogarty.
Goalkeeper John Fogarty saved well at the feet of Padraig Joyce, who along with John Devane, who scored a last minute consolation goal, was the only Galway forward to perform.
Forde completed the rout with a 67th minute goal, finishing low past Alan Keane, for a third win in six games.
