Limerick overturn deficit to beat Cavan

Cavan 0-07 Limerick 0-11

Limerick continued their incredible league form in their first time in the top flight as they came from behind at Kingscourt to win by four points.

Maurice Horan and captain Muiris Gavin were their prime scorers in Cavan.

Cavan, who lost heavily to Sligo last Sunday, were down to the game’s first score from a Gavin free after three minutes.

Larry Reilly, starting for the first time this season, began a run of four straight scores for the home side as Gerald Pierson’s two frees and a well-taken point from play from Anthony Ford put Cavan 0-04 to 0-01 in front after 25 minutes.

Gavin’s second free and a Horan point five minutes later put two between the sides at the break after Nicholas Walsh pointed Cavan’s fifth score.

A hat-trick of quick frees from half forward Gavin inside the first ten minutes of the second half handed the initiative back to the visitors and the win looked assured when Pierce McKenna and Ford walked for second yellow cards after 22 and 25 minutes of the second half respectively.

The men in green rounded out their win with Horan, Eoin Keating, Horan again and Stephen Kelly, a goalscorer in their first game, all finding their scoring touch.
