Kildare call up new boys
Kildare give a competitive start to 2002 minor captain Michael Foley from Athy at midfield for Sunday’s Allianz NFL tie against Derry in Newbridge.
His 2003 counter-part, Moorefield’s Ross Glavin, will play at full forward .
Foley has been performing well for NUI Maynooth, while Army cadet Glavin has been lining out with the Defence Forces in the recent Connacht FBD league.
Sarsfields clubman Morgan O’Sullivan – son of former Kildare star of the ‘70s Ray O’Sullivan – gets his first NFL start at right half forward, having lined out at centre forward against Westmeath in the O’Byrne Cup.
Manager Padraig Nolan will have to plan without the services of captain Dermot Earley and vice captain Kilian Brennan, who along with last year’s skipper Anthony Rainbow, Mick Wright and Kenny Duane, are all on the injured list.
