GAA chiefs have moved quickly to respond to comments made by motormouth TV pundit Pat Spillane who slammed the association for failing to hold onto its best talents.

Kerry legend Spillane was critical of the apparent ease with which Cork star Setanta O hAilpin was lost to the Australian Football League late last year.

GAA PRO Danny Lynch replied: "The first anyone knew of what Setanta's intentions were was when he was actually in Australia.

"I would like to point out that over the last 20 years, only three Gaelic players made it after turning professional in Australia."
