Underdogs second series to get green light

TG4's hit GAA reality TV programme The Underdogs will be extended for a second series but with hurling instead of football.

Football's Underdogs were only marginally beaten by Dublin at Parnell Park on Sunday and now TG4 chiefs in association with Adare Productions want to extend the idea - to hurling.

"The Underdogs has been an absolute success so the obvious thing now is to extend the concept to another sport next year, most likely hurling,” revealed show producer Evan Chamberlain.

“It’s been a phenomenal success from day one and the interest has been huge so while we’re not ruling out doing another football version, or even a rugby show, the chances are it will be hurling.”

Mickey Ned O'Sullivan, one part of the show's management trio, backed the idea.

“I think we showed when you get a group of lads together and motivated, you can do anything with them,” he said.

"Our biggest problem was we didn't know how they would respond to the pressure. Once they didn't wilt in the first 10 minutes, we knew we had a chance."
