GAA President Kelly lashes 'ambush marketing'

GAA President Sean Kelly has hit out at the controversial Paddy Power marketing scheme and charged that the bookmakers are guilty of "ambush marketing" and "piggybacking on the GAA's success".

The company paid €750 to three players from Wexford and Cork who in turn sported the bookmakers' logo on their hurls and they plan to do the same this weekend with Kilkenny and Tipperary players.

Kelly said: "It was a cheap shot, exploitation of the players and they showed scant regard for our amateur status. We warn any players thinking of doing the same at the weekend to think twice."
