Galway lead at the break
John O'Mahony's charges lead at the break, despite Donegal having played the better football in the first half of the third ever Championship meeting between these sides, at Croke Park.
A 25th minute goal from full forward Michael Meehan dramatically changed the complexion of the game. The teenager gratefully accepted a hand pass from Derek Savage from a loose ball from John Gildea, and sidestepped keeper Tony Blake to rifle to the roof of the net from eight yards.
