Red Hands hand hammering to Fermanagh
Tyrone 1-21 Fermanagh 0-5
It was more farce than football as Mickey Harte's Tyrone cruised into the All-Ireland semi-finals with a landslide win over Fermanagh in a cruelly one-sided Croke Park encounter.
It was simply a stroll in the park for the Red Hands, who controlled the game from start to finish, totally outclassing their Ulster neighbours with a refreshing brand of sharp incisive football and a whopping 22 scores.
Now the Ulster champions await the winners of the quarter-final clash of Kerry and Roscommon as they bid for a first All-Ireland final appearance since 1995.
Tyrone ran directly and powerfully at their opponents throughout the opening 10 minutes, shooting points through Canavan, Gerard Cavlan and Mulligan.
The speed and movement of the Red Hand attack was just too much for a hard-pressed Fermanagh defence to handle, and with Kevin Hughes in awesome ball-winning form at midfield, the supply to the front men was regular and accurate.
The shooting was at times, however, erratic, allowing Fermanagh off the hook on a number of occasions, but Sean Cavanagh's 12th minute goal was a lesson in finishing.
Hughes seized possession in midfield, and his pass to Mulligan was quickly transferred to the inrushing teenager, who fired a low shot past Ronan Gallagher.
Tyrone were now 1-5 to 0-1 ahead and coasting. Ciarán O'Reilly and Tom Brewster hit Fermanagh points, but there was no relenting at the other end, with Cavlan spraying passes majestically and Cavanagh, Mulligan, Brian McGuigan and Enda McGinley all finding the target for a commanding 1-11 to 0-2 half-time lead.
The punishment was far from over, and the Ulster champions stretched their lead still further through Canavan, Cavlan, Hughes and half backs Ciaran Gourley and Conor Gormley.
The tempo dropped markedly, but Tyrone still produced flashes of dazzling football to which their opponents had no answer, and the scores just kept coming.
No less than 10 Tyrone players now had their names entered on the scoresheet, with Hughes capping a wonderful performance with an equally brilliant concluding score.
