Galway see off Connacht rivals

Galway 0-12 Roscommon 0-8

Galway secured a four-point win over neighbours and bitter rivals Roscommon at the refurbished Pearse Stadium today.

The Tribesmen were never in trouble despite a spirited Roscommon rally in the second half.

Galway were 0-4 to 0-1 up after 15 minutes, but quick points from Stephen Lohan and Jonathan Dunning pulled Roscommon to within a point.

However, frees form Padraig Joyce (0-3) and team star Michael Meehan put Galway firmly in control at the break lead 0-9 to 0-3.

Roscommon had the breeze and started the better in the second half and two points from Frankie Dolan and Seamus O'Neill brought them to within four.

Sean Óg de Paor and Paul Clancy provided some relief for Galway before Francie Grehan and Dunning pulled the underdogs back again with minutes on the clock.

However, Galway held out for the win with an insurance point from Paul Clancy.
