Waterford ended the Allianz NHL on a high note as they defeated Offaly following a lively clash in Birr.

With the help of goals from Paul Flynn and Ken McGrath, wind assisted Waterford established a commanding 2-12 to 0-4 interval advantage.

Offaly fought back with fierce determination and 13 minutes into the second half they trailed by just six points, 2-15 to 1-12. However, another Flynn goal swung matters Waterford’s way.

Damien Murray netted his and Offaly’s second goal in the 67th minute, but it wasn’t enough to deny Waterford who wrapped up victory with a deflected Seamus Prendergast goal in added time.

Flynn, who helped him-self to 2-5, Dave Bennett, Eoin Kelly and Tony Browne shone for last year’s Munster Champions, with Offaly being best served by Damien Murray, who notched up 2-6, Gary Hanniffy, Colm Cassidy and Stephen Brown.
