Murphy quits Kildare senior football

In a sensational development it has emerged the Leixlip goalie Enda Murphy has quit the Kildare senior football panel.

It appears Murphy conveyed his dissatisfaction at being omitted from the team for successive NFL games against Mayo and Down to manager Padraig Nolan and his selectors, when the team was picked for the Down game last Thursday night.

Against Fermanagh it was felt by some observers that the Leixlip man was to some degree culpable for at least one of the goals which beat him.

Byrne was then recalled for the Mayo game, retaining his place for the game against Down in Newbridge last Sunday.

Murphy grabbed his chance last year when injury struck down Castlemitchell man Christy Byrne.

Murphy won rave notices for his performances in the Leinster championship and challenging for a place in the Compromise Rules panel against Australia.

Sources in the Leixlip club have indicated that Murphy was unhappy had informed Kildare boss Padraig Nolan that he had no wish to be consigned to another period sitting on the bench.

The Kildare management have refused to comment on the issue.
